David Prakash is an Indian/Samoan artist who began his journey into the realm of street dance in 2012. During this time, he has explored multiple genres such as Popping, Hip Hop freestyle, House, and Krump. In 2018, David co-founded ‘Jam On Toast’ with peer and close friend Oliver Le. JOT served as one of Naarms biggest community dance jams for people to come hang out and connect with new people.

David over the past 5 years has actively taught and facilitated classes across Naarm, Boorloo &#38;amp; Mparntwe. Honouring the lineage of Black American, LatinX &#38;amp; LGBTQI+ street dance pioneers, David aims to create spaces for curious minds to seek and find what it means to connect with one another in communal contexts.

At current, David is interested in dance making utilsing street dance forms in the context of theatre.He currently represents the following crews &#38;amp; Krump fams: The Unguided, ORPHANZ &#38;amp; Trip famDancer &#38;amp; Co-collaborator in the following works:&#38;nbsp;

	About...

One of David’s first major outcomes in 2022 featured a work titled ‘Insert Self’ presented by L2R, co-directed by David Prakash &#38;amp; Jayden Wall. ‘Interrogating common freedoms&#38;nbsp;and authentic, urgent identity making’. 

The work as a result,acted as a container to echo the stories of young local artists with attachment to L2R and various street dance genres.

This project was supported by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its funding and advisory body.

	About...
Cross Styles: Staged brought the expertise and experiences of five street dance artists from different cultures and backgrounds within the street dance community. This work-in-progress-showing explores how to transform street dance into an immersive theatre experience, focusing on storytelling and unfurling in real time. 

What it resulted in was a unique taster into the world of street dance, whilst aiming to inform and educate as the collective moved trough the work.

Staged was a collaborative effort between Burn City Waack and Jam on Toast, evolve their annual Cross Styles event to transform a cross-form street dance battle into a staged work.

This work was supported by Dancehouse, Creative Victoria &#38;amp; Regional Arts Victoria

	About...

An experimental work aimed at splicing, shifting and reorienting dialogue, movement, history and stories.

Working from the base of Hip hop history, David and Oliver delved into the ideas that are used in sampling of sound to generate new ideas. This then evolved into discussions around film and media that influenced both artists, from old school kung fu movies all the way to anime.

This work was supported by Lucy Guerin &#38;amp; Temperance Hall. ‘Out Of Bounds’ is an artist sharing platform showcasing Independent artists.

Consisting of two street dancers and one music producer (curating live). The work aimed at emulating what it would be like to experience the rush of witnessing ideas unfold in real-time, similar or akin to what it feels like freestyling, improvising or jamming with friends. 

Genuine reactions, fucking up or just finding that hidden layer of sound yet to be discovered, these are the diamonds we hoped to uncover.

Genres of dance deriving from black american, LatinX &#38;amp; LGBTQI+ communities. Together we delve into the significance of interpersonal relationships, whilst tending to the collective responsibility that we hold to one another.
